Gruelling tour takes a toll on gaunt Nicola

The constant grind of life on the road appears to have caught up with Nicola Roberts.


The petite singer, who has spent the last three months on a gruelling UK tour with Girls Aloud, looked gaunt and drawn as she paid a visit to London’s Bungalow 8 last night.

Her usually clear alabaster skin was blighted by spots that not even thick foundation could cover up.


The 23-year-old, who was accompanied by her boyfriend Charlie Fennell, appeared frail in her peach coloured shift dress.


Fellow bandmate Cheryl Cole was also pictured last week looking even thinner than usual in a sign the combination of late nights and high-energy performances have caused the girls to unwittingly lose extra pounds.
Nicola has previously struggled with her heath on tour because of an undiagnosed iron deficiency and once almost collapsed before a performance.

‘I broke down in tears before one of our shows because I felt so weak,’ she said at the time.
‘I was close to fainting, but I had no idea what was wrong with me. I just couldn’t stop eating and I was always hungry.’
At 5ft 5in, she usually weighs in at 8st but insists she’d prefer to be curvier.


My weight fluctuates all the time and I actually feel better when I’m about 9st. I also have low blood sugar so if I don’t eat often the weight falls off.’
‘I have a fast metabolism, so I just don’t put on weight easily.’


The Size 6 star has revealed she feels shy about her small frame.
‘I sometimes feel embarrassed asking for that size. Shop assistants look at me like I’ve got a problem.’


Nicola and her fellow band mates, Cheryl, Sarah Harding, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle, are taking the summer off from touring and are next due to perform as the support act for Coldplay in September.
