Holy Moly Guest Blog – G-A-Y and Hair

The 5th day of Nicola’s guest blogging over on HolyMoly.com. Read what she got up to over the weekend.

My weekend’s been amazing. We played the G-A-Y club on Saturday night. So I had rehearsals all day Friday and all day Saturday. On the night the crowd was incredible. I had to take my in-ears out because they were so loud I thought, ‘They’re gonna deafen me and I’m not gonna be able to do the rest of my set’. I was so taken aback, it was amazing. Such a good atmosphere; everyone wanted to have a good time.

I changed some of the edits around. I did Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime – the cover – and I did a drum & bass edit to it, so everyone was raving! I did the Rhythm Is A Dancer mix to Lucky Day too. I had such a good time.

I had five foot hair extensions that went down to the floor. At one point they kind of got wrapped around my legs. I though, ‘Oh no!’ I nearly went over! And I was wearing shorts with big pompoms on the back.

Whenever we’ve done G-A-Y before we’ve always gone and done something really fun. There’s no rules so we totally embraced it. That was where I had the “botherd” skirt and I almost wore it again. I still have it. I almost put it on but then I thought, the people who don’t know what it is won’t get it and they might think I was the one saying “I’m a rude ginger bitch” and so that might not go down that well. So it stayed in the closet for another day.

My dad and his sister were down watching the show. It was my dad’s birthday so we all went to Balans for a middle-of-the-night breakfast, and I had the biggest burger I’ve ever seen. And we had a birthday cake for my dad.

After that, Charlie was driving me home and I had to get the hair out of my head. I felt like I was taking off a bloody crown of thorns! I was like, ‘Get it out of my hair!’. My head’s never felt so good. And now I have this massive hair in my car. Charlie was like, “What is this? It looks like a snake.” I’d better remove it before the guy who comes to wash the car has a heart attack. He’s gonna think Charlie’s massacred me.

I only had one glass of champagne after the set, but then yesterday I woke up and felt like I’d been on the biggest night out of my life. I felt really hungover. So I spent the day in mostly bed; Charlie doted on me and made me dinner and ran me a bath. I watched The Kardashians and The Only Way Is Essex. I was gonna go to sleep at nine o’clock but then I remembered that Essex was on and I was like, ‘Oh I don’t want to miss it!’

Oh, and I watched X Factor as well. I love Jade. I love the way she comes on so calm, and she’s just there to sing. And she’s got her little Adidas hoodie. She looks like she’d be a really nice friend. Her voice is just incredible.

I’ve been looking at my album reviews today and, honestly, I could cry. It’s a bit of a shocker. Someone tweeted me all of the mark-ups – the stars that the various papers had given it – and when you see them all collected like that, 4 out of 5 and 5 out of 5, it was just like: ‘Oh my fucking god! That’s incredible.’ I could cry. It’s quite amazing.

And now the album’s out there and I just have to hope that people like it. That’s all I can ask for.

Nicola Roberts debut album Cinderella’s Eyes is out now.
