Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts – famed for her ginger locks – admits beau Charlie Fennell has given her the affectionate nickname and often calls her it when he doesn’t agree with her quirky outfit choices. Speaking at a party for luxurious footwear designer Gianmarco Lorenzi at his London store, Nicola said: “I’ll wear things my boyfriend doesn’t like because I like to be a bit out there. And he’s just like, ‘Come on Ginge get that off’ – he’s not afraid to let me know what he thinks!” Although Charlie isn’t a fan, Nicola is becoming a bit of a fashionista and is winning rave reviews for her ensembles but she admits she doesn’t follow any fashion rules. She said: “Sometimes I want to be feminine and other times I want to be a rock chick. I don’t like to spend too long getting ready otherwise I drive myself mad. My style icon is Madonna because she wore things that weren’t necessarily fashion like a bra outside a top.” Another style icon of Nicola’s is a bit closer to home – her Girls Aloud bandmate Cheryl Cole. When asked who was the best dressed member of the group, Nicola replied: “Oh Cheryl, definitely. She always looks great.” Source: Star Magazine |

Nicola Roberts doesn’t think she’s ready to have her own clothing line. The Girls Aloud star is currently in the process of launching her make-up range for pale-skinned girls, Dainty Doll, but has no plans to create a fashion collection because it would be undeserved. Speaking at a party for luxurious footwear designer Gianmarco Lorenzi at his London store, Nicola told BANG Showbiz: “I don’t want to have a fashion range just because I can. Just because I am a celebrity doesn’t mean I should have a fashion range. I’m not qualified for it and real designers can do a much better job.” Although she doesn’t want her own clothing range, Nicola also wouldn’t have the time because she’s so involved in her cosmetic line. She said: “I never realised how much work goes into doing something like this. It should be ready to be launched later this year and I’ve been involved in every stage of the process and it’s something I’m really proud of. But it’s a lot of hard work, especially as I want to get it just right.” Source: FemaleFirst |

Girls Aloud’s “The Promise” is nominated for an Ivor Novello award for Most Performed Work. The song is running up against Lily Allen’s “The Fear” and James Morrison’s “Broken Strings”. “The Promise” was written by Brian Higgins, Miranda Cooper, Kieran Jones, Jason Resch, Carla-Marie Williams, Tim Powell and Nick Coler (published by Warner/Chappell Music). “The Promise” is Girls Aloud’s fourth number one single in the UK Singles Chart and won “Best British Single” at the BRIT Awards 2009. It was the first single to be taken from the group’s fifth studio album Out of Control. Brian Higgins said that Xenomania knew that “The Promise” was “the piece of music Girls Aloud needed to announce them as a supergroup in this country”: “‘The Promise’ was the sound of a big group, a group about to be huge. They needed the theme tune to the biggest girl group on the planet”. The Ivor Novello Awards recognise the best British songwriting and composing. The ceremony will take place on Thursday 20th May 2010 at the Grosvenor House, London. See the full list of nominees Source: Xenomanianews |

| Sunbed ban backed by Nicola to become law | |

A NEW law banning under-18s from tanning salons is set to come into force — after being cleared by the Lords today. The Sunbeds (Regulation) Bill aims to combat the increase in skin cancer among young women. It follows a Sun campaign to ban unmanned automatic sun beds, backed by Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts and Hollyoaks actress Gemma Merna. The Bill, which has cross-party support, was launched in January. It places a duty on salon operators in England and Wales to prevent the use of sunbeds by under-18s and gives local authority officers increased powers to inspect the businesses and to penalise owners who breach the ban. It will stop children hiring or buying sunbeds and outlaw automatic tanning salons. Clear health information would also be required in salons, setting out the dangers of sunbed use. A similar ban already applies in Scotland, and ministers in Northern Ireland have said they plan to bring forward legislation on sunbeds as soon as possible. The Bill, which had already cleared the Commons, has now been sent for Royal Assent. Source: The Sun |

The fact she hasn’t spoken to bandmate Nadine Coyle, 24, in six months isn’t bothering Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts.
Dave Berry, the fiancé of Sugababes member Heidi Range, has admitted he is a fan of another girl band singer.
