Interview with Nicola Roberts about Dainty Doll

cheryl coleSky Showbiz catch up with Nicola Roberts as she tells us why she wouldn’t mind being stuck on a desert island with Cheryl Cole.

As Nicola launches her new Dainty Doll cosmetics line, we quiz the singer about the range.

And she even reveals her top fashion and beauty secrets.

What inspired you to start your own make-up line?
‘Seeing that no other brand on the market cater for paler skinned women really frustrated me. Having to use three or four different products to try and come up with a shade close to my skin tone was very time-consuming. I think it says it all when your make-up artist presents you with anexcited face, holding white face paint she’s imported from Japan!”

What’s new about the latest range?
“I have reformulated the whole line and brought as much common sense to the products as possible, giving woman of today something they need. For example my concealer “Abracadabra” has an anti-inflammatory inside. The formulation is predominantly natural and contains an anti-inflammatory – a must for anyone, including me, who has to deal with naughty skin.”

Who is your beauty icon?
“Gwen Stefani is my beauty icon, she is always so polished and her make up is just perfectly placed every time. Not fair!”

Your top beauty secret?
“My top beauty secret is my Dainty Doll Wonder Balm. There is nothing better at the end of a long day, maybe after a shoot, than coming home, washing your make-up off and applying the wonder balm. It’s enriched with Vitamin A, so nourishes and heals your skin.

I use it on my lips and all over my eyes to nourish my lashes and eyebrows. It’s a great soother and you can also use it over the top of your make-up for that fresh dewy look or to correct mistakes.”

Liverpool beauty guru on Nicola Roberts

She used to be the awkward one who stood in the background while her band mates were getting all the publicity but now it’s Nicola Roberts turn to be in the spotlight.

And particularly after the Times Beauty magazine singled her out as one of the faces of 2010. She has emerged into a rare beauty; her porcelain skin and her fabulous natural red hair give her a unique look.

Nicola has always stood out from the crowd for me and now being recognised as one of the most beautiful women in the world is a fitting reward.

Nicola Roberts would probably fit neatly into the latest fashion buzz word ‘pretty’.There are two types, ‘edgy pretty’ and ‘anti-pretty’. Edgy pretty is all about dressing well and looking attractive and stylish. Delicate, floaty, floral chiffons are a key look given a harder edge with bold make-up. Good examples are Lily Allen of course Nicola

Then there is ‘anti-pretty’ also described as death head chic – white foundation, minimal blusher, red eye make-up and stark vibrant lipstick. This has been a favourite at all the catwalk shows and will get you noticed.

How far would some people go to get their make-up right? The latest beauty procedure is an eyebrow transplant. But at £3,000 I’ll stick with having my brows tinted for the time being.

Is skinny Nicola Roberts going too far?

Nicola Roberts has come a long way since the early Girls Aloud days of matching denim. The redheaded singer has ditched the fake tan and hair extensions, to step out of the shadow of her older bandmates.

But while Nicola has developed her own unique sense of style, she may have gone too far in her attempts to become a fashionista.

The 24-year-old had not an ounce of spare flesh on her as she arrived for London Fashion Week last night. Posing for the cameras in her print dress at the Topshop Unique show she looked as skinny as a catwalk model.

The previous day Nicola was amongst the audience at the Bodyamr show, wearing stone washed jeans and a red jacket.

She recently defended her interest in fashion, saying she wasn’t a ‘fashion victim’. ‘I’m just a girl who loves fashion,’ she said. ‘I’m finding my way, finding my style and whatever anyone thinks I’m enjoying myself. ‘Everything I wear now, I wear because I absolutely love it. I think I look good in it. I feel confident and I’m having fun.’

Nicole Roberts: Is this sexy? No, no, no

Convinced she was ugly, Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts used fake tan. Now she’s getting vocal on the danger of sunbeds

Nicola Roberts always felt like the ugly one in Girls Aloud. Partly it was her age – when the group was formed by a reality TV show in 2002, she was only 16 and struggling with the normal insecurities of any teenage girl. Overnight, the red-haired girl from Runcorn was catapulted into the public eye and posing for photo-shoots alongside four preternaturally gorgeous band-mates, including Cheryl Cole. But mostly, Roberts says, she felt ugly because of her pale skin.

“I used to do fake tanning because I was told that I didn’t look great,” she explains. “Being brown is something that people find attractive so I thought at least I could make that piece of the jigsaw fit. The newspapers would always refer to the other girls like ’stunning Sarah [Harding]‘ and I never had that prefix. I wanted that, at 16.”
